Part 5 — Your 30-Day AEO Action Plan [You Are Here]

You've made it to the final post in The AEO Playbook for Service Businesses.

Over the past four posts, you've learned what AEO is, how to structure content for AI citations, and how to implement it on both Squarespace and Shopify. Now it's time to put it all together into something you can actually execute — without losing a month of your life to it.

This plan is built for business owners who are already busy. It prioritizes the highest-impact actions first, batches similar tasks together, and is organized so you can make meaningful progress in focused 60–90 minute sessions.

By the end of 30 days, your site will be structurally optimized for AI search. The results will compound from there.

Before You Start: Two Things to Confirm

1. Your SEO foundations are in place.

AEO builds on SEO. If you haven't worked through the Squarespace SEO Checklist or Shopify SEO Checklist yet, do that first. Specifically: Google Search Console connected, sitemap submitted, page titles and meta descriptions set on all key pages. If those are done, you're ready.

2. You know your primary question.

Every piece of content on your site should ultimately answer one version of the same question: "Why should someone hire me / buy from me?" Know yours before you start. It shapes every headline, every FAQ, every description you'll write this month.

Week 1: Foundation

This week is about establishing the structural signals that AI tools use to identify your site as a credible source.

Day 1 — Rewrite your site description

Go to your site's business settings (Squarespace or Shopify) and rewrite the site description as a clear, specific statement of who you serve, what you do, and your positioning. One to two sentences. No vague language.

Day 2 — Audit and rewrite your About page

Your About page is your primary authority signal. Restructure it with named sections: who you are, your specific background and credentials, who you serve, and your approach. Include your full name prominently. For Shopify users with a service offering: explicitly name both sides of your business on this page.

Day 3 — Add schema markup to your homepage

Add LocalBusiness schema to your homepage using the Code Injection method (Squarespace) or a schema app (Shopify). Include your business name, address, phone, URL, and service area. Use Google's Structured Data Testing Tool to verify it's working.

Day 4 — Add FAQPage schema to your top service or collection page

Pick your highest-traffic service page or product collection. Write five real client questions and clear answers. Add FAQPage schema. This single addition is one of the highest-leverage AEO actions you can take.

Day 5 — Compress and audit images site-wide

Run your site through pagespeed.web.dev. If your mobile score is below 70, slow load time is likely suppressing your crawl frequency — which means less of your content gets evaluated. Compress all images over 500KB.

Days 6–7 — Rest or catch up

Use these days to finish anything from Days 1–5. Don't rush schema or About page rewrites. Done properly once is better than done quickly twice.

Week 2: Content Structure

This week, you're restructuring your most important content for AI extraction.

Day 8 — Audit your top three blog posts

Open your three most-visited blog posts. For each one: does it answer the core question in the first three paragraphs? Are headings phrased as questions or specific statements? Is there a FAQ section? Identify what needs fixing before you write anything new.

Day 9 — Rewrite the intros of your top three posts

Rewrite the opening of each post to lead with the direct answer. Two to three sentences. No preamble. Apply the structure from Part 2 of this series.

Day 10 — Add FAQ sections to your top three posts

Write three to five questions per post, phrased conversationally, with clear direct answers. Add them as a section at the bottom of each post. This single structural addition is one of the most consistently effective AEO actions.

Day 11 — Restructure one service page

Pick your primary service page. Restructure the headings so each section answers a specific question about the service. Add a five-question FAQ at the bottom. Add FAQPage schema.

Day 12 — Write one new blog post using full AEO structure

Write a post built specifically for AEO from the ground up. Pick a question your clients ask regularly. Use the structure from Part 2: direct answer opening, question-based H2s, list or table, FAQ at the end. Aim for 800–1,200 words.

Days 13–14 — Rest or catch up

Finish the week 2 tasks. Quality over speed here, especially on the new blog post.

Week 3: Platform-Specific Optimization

This week applies the platform-specific work from Parts 3 and 4.

For Squarespace users:

Day 15 — Run the Squarespace AEO page audit checklist from Part 3 against all key pages. Create a simple list of what needs fixing.

Day 16 — Add Article schema to your three most important blog posts.

Day 17 — Review your blog category structure. Consolidate into specific, consistent categories (no more than 6–8). Assign every existing post to the correct category.

Day 18 — Audit your homepage headings. Ensure H1 is set, H2s are specific and content-rich, and no heading levels are skipped.

For Shopify users:

Day 15 — Run the Shopify AEO checklist from Part 4 against your store. Create your fix list.

Day 16 — Add introductory paragraphs to your top three collection pages (150–250 words each, answering the core question for that category).

Day 17 — Rewrite the product descriptions for your top five products to answer questions, not just describe features.

Day 18 — Verify NAP consistency across Shopify, your Google Business Profile, and any other platforms where your business is listed.

Days 19–21 (All platforms)

Day 19 — Verify all internal links are working. Add at least one internal link to the AEO Quick-Start Checklist or your free SEO checklists from each newly updated page.

Day 20 — Submit updated URLs to Google Search Console for re-indexing.

Day 21 — Rest.

Week 4: Distribution and Monitoring

The work is done. Now you make sure it gets found and track whether it's working.

Day 22 — Create Pinterest pins for the AEO series

Create one pin per post in this series (five pins total). Use the post title as the text overlay. Link each pin to the corresponding post. Add to a board titled "AI Search for Service Businesses" or similar.

Day 23 — Send an email to your list

Send a short email introducing the AEO series. Link to Part 1. Keep it brief — one paragraph explaining why AEO matters, one link to the series, and a mention of the free checklist. This is also a soft promotion for the AEO lead magnet.

Day 24 — Share on LinkedIn

Write a short LinkedIn post (150–200 words) about one insight from the series. Link to Part 1 or the checklist. Tag it as educational content, not a promotion.

Days 25–27 — Write one more AEO-optimized post

The more content you have structured for AEO on a specific topic, the stronger your topical authority signal becomes. Write a second new post this month. Use the full structure from Part 2.

Day 28 — Set your monthly AEO review habit

Open Google Search Console. Note your current impressions, clicks, and average position for your key pages. Screenshot it. This is your baseline. Check it again in 30 days.

Days 29–30 — Rest and plan Month 2

You've done the foundational work. Month 2 is about consistent content — one new AEO-optimized post per week, steady Pinterest distribution, and incremental improvements to existing pages based on what Search Console tells you.

What Comes Next

This series gave you the foundation. The businesses that will see the most benefit from AEO over the next two to three years are the ones who build it into their content habit — not as a one-time project, but as a consistent practice.

  • One AEO-optimized post per week.

  • FAQ sections on every new page.

  • Schema on every key page.

That's all it takes to stay ahead of most of your competition.

If you want support implementing any of this — on your Squarespace site, your Shopify store, or both — that's exactly what we do at QBD.
