began.
Every business has a starting point. QBD's is more personal than most. Two moments, years apart, that pointed in the same direction, and the year it all became real.
2016 — The Name
What is in your hand?
In 2016, during my devotional in the book of Exodus, I came across the moment when God asks Moses what is in his hand. Moses answers simply: a staff. Just a staff. And from that one thing in his hand, everything changed.
Something shifted in me when I read that. I felt that same question being asked of me. What is in your hand?
"Then the LORD said to him, 'What is that in your hand?' 'A staff,' he replied."

That was the day the name came to me. I am quantitative by design. Not as a tagline. As a statement of identity. The analytical thinking, the love of systems, the instinct to help — it was all already there. QBD was just the name for what I was already built to do.
Earlier — The First Website
A university club and a hair blog.
Long before 2016, my relationship with websites started in university. I was part of a community club and was given what felt like a straightforward task: build us a website. I had never done it before. I learned WordPress from scratch and figured it out.
That first build lit something up. I wanted to understand it more, so I started a personal project — a hair blog called healthynrelaxedhair.com — specifically to practice. Not to grow an audience. Just to learn how to build.
"Families and acquaintances started offering to pay me to build their business websites. I did not go looking for clients. The work found me."
That pattern has repeated itself throughout QBD's story. Build something well, with genuine intent to help, and the people who need it tend to find you. That is still the operating philosophy today.
2017 — QBD Launches
Quiet from the start.
QBD launched in Toronto in 2017. Not with a big announcement or a launch campaign. Quietly. With a clear sense of what it was for and who it was built to serve.
The early years were about building real competence. Squarespace. Shopify. SEO. Analytics. Automation. Each capability added when there was genuine client need for it, not because it looked good on a services page.
That instinct — build real competence first, add capability only when it's genuinely needed — is still exactly how QBD operates today. Quiet scaling, precisely as the method describes.
